So many names, so crazy good!
Toffee treats, crunch bars, saltine candy and on Noble Pig, Cathy called hers Matzo Toffee. How funny she posted hers while I was making mine! Anyway....who cares what they are called at this point....whip some up NOW and you won't care about the name either cuz they are so delicious!
Here is your basic recipe followed by pictorial steps for you:
Toffee Treats
35 saltines (one sleeve of crackers)
3/4 cup butter (I used 50/50 smart balance)
3/4 cup brown sugar
8 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts of your choice
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees while you set up.
Lay out all your saltines onto a silpat or parchment paper. Tin foil will also work.
Stir butter and sugar in saucepan until it comes together at medium high heat.
Boil for 3 minutes.
Pour over crackers.
Spread evenly until all saltines are coated. Bake for 5-7 minutes.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chips let stand 5 minutes or until chocolate is softened.
Spread chocolate evenly over the toffeed saltines.
Sprinkle with your nuts of choice. Cool.
Break into pieces.
So simple and yet so yummy! Hard to believe there is a cracker in there!
